Yoga @ the Library

Join us for Yoga @ the Library on Saturday, April 27. The class will run from 9:30 to 10:45 am, and will be held in the Program Room, Radcliffe Children’s Library. The instructor is Tracy Bruce. Pre-registration is required; students must register for each class. Class size is limited to the first 15 registrants.

Mahjong teacher Rhonda Greif returns to Perrot Library in May for another round of her popular Mahjong classes. The class will meet on Wednesdays, May 1, 8, and 15, from 1 to 3 pm, Program Room, Radcliffe Children’s Library, Perrot Memorial Library. This class is for adults.

TONIGHT! Join us for a discussion with culinary historian and author of A General's Cook, Ramin Ganeshram, tonight, Wednesday, April 24th from 7:00 - 8:30pm at Perrot Library.

Tonight is part one of the series, Historical Foodways: Seed, Hearth & Taste, a three-part series of book discussions featuring stories of heirloom seeds, hearth cooking and how taste connects us to land and culture. Tonight's program is a collaboration between Peerot Library and the Foodshed Forum.

Perrot Memorial Library, in collaboration with Foodshed Forum, invites you to join us for A facilitated discussion will follow each presentation exploring how historical foodways inform our present and future food system. We hope you will join us for conversations with culinary historians, food writers, seed savers and thought leaders who are dedicated to sharing the ways in which food brings meaning, value and connection to our lives.

A General's Cook is a story of Hercules, the enslaved chef to George Washington is well-known, especially to those who watched "High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America" on Netflix. Hercules set a standard of excellence for the President that was considered important for a new nation and his legacy can be seen in diplomatic dinners even today.

Ramin Ganeshram is a veteran journalist, who has written features for the New York Times and for New York Newsday. She is a celebrated food columnist who has been awarded seven Society of Professional Journalist awards for her work and an IACP Cookbook of The Year Award. A professionally trained chef, Ganeshram is the author of several cookbooks. She specializes in writing about multicultural communities as a news reporter and about food from the perspective of history and culture. Born and raised in New York City, she lives in Westport, Conn., where she is currently the executive director of the Westport Museum for History and culture.

End the weekend with some jazz! The Adam Moezinia

End the weekend with some jazz! The Adam Moezinia Trio will be performing “Sunday Jazz @ the Library” tomorrow, Sunday, April 21 at 2 pm, on the “Green,” (The Green is the central, carpeted area in the Youth Services Department.) Youth Services Department, Radcliffe Children’s Library. This event is for adults and older children.

Guitarist Adam Moezinia is a native of Los Angeles, where he studied at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) under the mentorship of Jason Goldman, Walter Smith III, and Kenny Dennis. In 2010, he moved to New York City to study at The Juilliard School. Since then, he’s worked with many greats such as Freddy Cole, Mike LeDonne, Cecile Mclorin Salvant, George Coleman and Kenny Washington at venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Blue Note, Birdland, Smoke, Scullers and Bird’s Basement. Adam has also been performing regularly with his band the “Folk Element” trio since 2017. The trio is rooted in the jazz tradition but is influenced by folk music from all over the world including West Africa, South Africa, the Caribbean, the UK and Appalachia. As of April 2021, they officially released their debut album “Folk Element Trio” available on all major platforms! In July 2023, they embarked on a 27 day west coast tour from Los Angeles to Vancouver and back playing some of the iconic west coast venues such as The Black Cat in San Fransisco and 1905 in Portland. Moving forward, they will continue to explore the unique relationship between jazz and folk music, sharing those discoveries with audiences across the globe.
