everything you ever wanted to know about y2c2

Perrot Library’s Young Young Critics’ Club (Y2C2) is the super-cool younger sibling of the famous, fabulous, Young Critics Club. The Young Young Critics get together to read the newest new books of the year (a lot of times before even bookstores have them), so everybody who's anybody wants to know what they are reading! By early spring the Young Young Critics will have read and reviewed about thirty brand new books, and they are ready to vote for the titles that will make it to their "Pick of the List" list. (Check out the link to this years' list over there. Yeah, that lefty-left thing.). This list is used by teachers and School Media Specialists to choose books for their libraries, and even publishers want to know what books are on the list! Think you can handle that kind of power?

The kids in Y2C2 love to read! The Y2C2s are in Grades 4 and 5. They meet on alternate Tuesdays year round at 4:00 P.M. to talk about the new books they are reading. Meetings last about 1 hour. Sometimes the club has visits from authors and editors who love to hear club members’ opinions.

Each week Mrs. Jarombek and Mrs. Clark introduce ("booktalk") the very best of the new books. Y2C2s who want to act as reviewers for one of the new books volunteer (sometimes they even beg!) to read it. They bring the book back to the next meeting, along with an honest critique and often an enthusiastic sales pitch. Then they pass that book along to another reader to review.
