School Visit Book List 2004

During the last two weeks of May 2004,

Mrs. Mac and Mrs. K. visited North Mianus, ISD, Riverside, and Old Greenwich Schools.

Eragon and the dragon, Saphira, develop a powerful psychic bond. After Eragon's house is destroyed and his uncle killed, he sets out to seek revenge.

Franklin Delano Donuthead is a fifth-grader with an unfortunate name. He's kind of obsessed with avoiding germs. His mom is a "cable guy" and he's never met his Dad. Then Sarah Kervick moves to town. She's rough and tough and not the kind of person that Franklin would normally like, but through a number of strange events, the two become great friends.

When his younger sister falls down an air duct in their apartment building, 11-year-old Gregor leaps in after her. They end up in another world, called Underland, where rats, spiders, and other creatures live alongside humans. Gregor wants to leave, but he is told that there was a prophecy that someone from the "Overworld" would come and save Underland from an attack by giant rats.

Despereaux Tilling is a very smart mouse with very big ears. Despereaux can read and loves music. He lives in a castle along with Roscuro, a nasty rat, and Miggery Sow, a servant girl who's not very smart. Even though it is expressly forbidden, Despereaux falls madly in love with the human Princess Pea. This book tells the stories of Despereaux, Roscuro, and Miggery, and the way their lives come together.

The Boy Who Spoke Dog, by Clay Morgan

Jack, a ship's cabin boy, is shipwrecked, and he washes up on a deserted island. Deserted, that is, except for sheep, sheep dogs, and wild dogs called fangos. Jack tries to become friends with a Border Collie named Moxie. Soon Jack learns that he can communicate with the dogs. The ship's crew eventually comes back to the island to rescue him, but Jack doesn't want to leave.

Twelve-year-old Rosie always chats with her Granny Torelli while they make soup. Rosie is having a big fight with her lifelong best friend Bailey. Granny Torelli knows just what to say to make Rosie feel better, and she goes with Rosie to bring soup to Bailey and end their argument.

Warriors: Into the Wild, by Erin Hunter

Rusty, a housecat, runs into a group of wild cats called the Thunder Clan, who ask Rusty to run away with them. Rusty decides to go for it, but life with the wild cats is harder than he expected. This is the first book in the Warriors series.
