On March 26,
2004, the Young Critics were visited by LIBBA BRAY, author of
A Great and Terrible Beauty, a thrilling Victorian/Gothic mystery novel
(Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 2003). Miss
Bray described how her characters were developed (some are based on old family
photographs and folklore), how her novel developed (the book required many, many
revisions, during which some characters and episodes were "left on the cutting
room floor"), and invited us to keep our eyes open for future stories about Gemma, Felicity, Pippa, Ann, the strange, dark, and handsome Kartik, and the
secrets of the mystical Order.
