THE LAST MRS. ASTOR: A NEW YORK STORY, BY FRANCES KIERNAN

The author, who knew Mrs. Astor personally, gives us a portrait of a charming and strong-willed woman, whose court battles have led to lurid headlines, but whose hands-on generosity endeared her to many.

THE TIN ROOF BLOWDOWN: A DAVE ROBICHEAUX NOVEL, BY JAMES LEE BURKE

THE TIN ROOF BLOWDOWN: A DAVE ROBICHEAUX NOVEL, BY JAMES LEE BURKE

[Mystery] Burke writes about New Orleans and the parishes surrounding “The Big Sleazy.” His main character, Dave Robicheaux, is a detective living in New Iberia with comes in contact with the seamiest underbelly of the big city. Dave is probably one of the nicest men that we will meet in any fiction series. In this novel, New Orleans has just been struck by Katrina. If you have ever visited this magic city, you will be able to feel every blow that diminished her. Burke’s writing is eloquent. The murder, mystery and destruction are vividly portrayed. Hopefully you will go back and read some others in this series.
